Expand the Realm is born from an idea of What is the minimum of player agency, that still makes a game? The idea was to limit a strategy game to just building three types of building and thats it!

In this game you can only build a farm, a mine or a castle. Farms produce food, mines produce iron and castles create knights that protect the people. Castles also require iron to operate and every building requires food or the people riot. During construction, every new settlement creates a route towards the capital city. The longer the route with more stops on it's way, the more gold it generates and the more wealth every settlement on this route gets. If a settlement reaches a certain level of prosperity, it generates a residence, an additional building adjacent to it. The game revolves around this simple balance of neccessary ressources and an inadvertent growth of population. The goal is to Expand the Realm to a certain level (50% of the available space).

A Tutorial exists in-game, that can be found in the menu by pressing ESC and selecting "How To Play".

Additionaly, this game served as a plattform to try out the wavefunction collapse approach for procedual generation. The hexagonal worldmap is different every game and is based on a set of rules that shape it.


Nonetheless a Disclaimer. The game is currently in it's very early development stage and I'm not even sure as to when, how or even if I'm going to continue to develop it further.
